- ★ NAME: Sono Chieri
- ★ AGE: 13
- ★ CANON POINT: AKB0048, end of season 2
- ★ CANON INFORMATION: Wiki link

- ★ PERSONALITY: At her heart, Chieri is a very kind, strong girl with a fierce determination and bravery. She is very passionate about fighting for her dreams, even in a world that condemns them. In the not too distant future of 0048, all forms of entertainment are banned and considered acts of terrorism. As the heiress of the Zodiac Corporation, one of the major military suppliers, Chieri grew up being taught by society and by her father that music was evil and corrupt. However, Chieri loves to sing and wants nothing more than to become an idol, spreading the same joy and hope that she found in music. She completely disagrees with the government’s ideals and laws and is in open rebellion against them. At first she tries to ask her father if he’ll let her join the guerrilla idol group AKB0048, however he dismisses her, telling her that they are criminals beyond redemption and that she’s not radiant or good enough to join them anyway. This sparked a severe inferiority complex in Chieri, she’s determined to prove herself as worthy and takes herself and her work more seriously than most of the other girls in 00, but often has doubts that she can’t live up her aspirations. After the death of her mother and brother as a child, Chieri’s father threw himself into his work and ignored his daughter, hardly ever coming home from his office or opening his door to her when he was home. She desperately wanted his approval, but the only family she had left refused to show her any acknowledgement or affection. This, in addition to watching the company her father ran constantly endanger and try to destroy her beloved AKB0048,turned Chieri from a sweet, friendly and somewhat naïve child into a stoic and unapproachable teenager who believed the only way to get ahead was to crush the dreams of everyone around you. Her isolation made her fiercely independent and she often runs headfirst into danger on her own, finding it difficult to confide in anyone. It’s a dog eat dog world with no room for friendship, and if you don’t see everyone as your competition then you won’t make it. She then spends the next 25 episodes constantly placing herself in harm’s way, sometimes throwing herself in front of others to protect them from danger immediately after these anti-friendship speeches, sacrificing herself an pushing her teammates to succeed.

It’s not to say Chieri isn’t ambitious, she wants to succeed herself more than anything and fights tooth and nail to surpass her friends, but as the series progresses it moves to more friendly rivalry with the other girls. This is in part mostly due to her best friend and rival, Nagisa. Where Chieri was cynical and harsh, Nagisa was optimistic and sweet, never letting Chieri’s attempts at distance stop them from being friends. They balance and support each other perfectly, in areas where one of them was weak willed the other was stubborn and determined, Nagisa was strong and hopeful and relentless against Chieri’s pessimism and fear. Chieri was world weary and experienced against Nagisa’s naivety and pulled her through when things were worse than Nagisa was prepared for. Nagisa bombarded Chieri with love and acceptance and kindness. She practically stalked her until she couldn’t help but respond to it, coming out of her shell and returning to the nice girl she was in her heart. They help each other grow into better, stronger people, Nagisa builds up Chieri’s confidence and radiance where her father ground it into the dirt, she is the person Chieri comes to trust and believe in more than anyone. Chieri still pushes herself to the top, and pushes the people around her to be the best they can be. This doesn’t always work out how she plans though, Chieri is pretty socially inept and since she always speaks her mind, the people around her were in for some painful honesty. Often she is reprimanded for being cruel and misunderstood as mocking someone she is trying to help improve, she’s gotten better about it lately but still has a lot to learn about how telling someone they suck is maybe not the best way to help them. Chieri is a serious girl, described as more focused and determined than the others, she’s often quiet in social situations but is never afraid to speak her mind or get involved. She’ll always put herself forward when it matters; she’s quiet but not shy. Chieri has a blossoming sense of humour as well; her quiet dignity hides a mischievous side and once she grows more confident can sometimes disappear in the face of boundless enthusiasm.

For all her fierceness and bold personality, Chieri really is just a lonely little girl who wants friends. As the series progresses and the dangers against them mount, she becomes better at working in a team and relying on others. Her walls become easier to break down and she lets herself cry and be overcome by her emotions in front of others. The trigger for this was when members of her group discovered who her father was and started accusing her of being a traitor, calling her a dirty rat. Nagisa stood by her at this time, but it wasn’t until the understudies team captain Kanata came to speak with her that she opened up. Kanata’s father had been killed in the war on entertainment, something she’d never gotten over and was still openly hostile towards DES and Zodiac for. However, even with all her bitterness and pain, Kanata didn’t hold Chieri’s background against her and welcomed her as a member of AKB0048; Nagisa had been an incredible friend, but it was Kanata who made her feel truly accepted for the first time. Despite being more open with her feelings and placing more trust in others, Chieri still tries hard to keep up a front. Now that her smiles come easier she uses them to cover up her insecurities and doubts. She’s still a child and it’s easy for Chieri to become lost in thoughts of jealousy and unhappiness. A fantastic actress, Chieri had developed a cheerful and polite public face that she could whip out in a moment during her more abrasive early canon moments. Both idols and high society girls have to be friendly and sweet to the public after all, putting on a peppy and talkative persona was something Chieri needed to know from a young age.

As her popularity grew, Chieri’s father began to finally take notice of her, and not in a good way. He started manipulating her image, broadcasting attacks that endangered her friends and show trials in order to give her a chance to shine in front of the world and creating adverts that spread her image throughout the galaxy without her permission. Chieri loathes being used and deceived, she tried to keep her calm when she discovered what he was doing but it didn’t take long until her emotions were driven into frenzy. This girl just does not handle lies and conflict well. Chieri doesn’t want to be anyone’s tool or use that deception to trick anyone; she wants to strive through in her own way and on her own merit. When she starts getting popular by underhanded means, even though she craves affection and finally had her father’s attention, she becomes so disgusted and upset that she nearly throws away her lifelong dream and everything she’s worked for just so her father won’t get his way. Chieri wants to be liked for her; she wants people to see her as she really is. Her attempt to quit became yet another example of Chieri talking a harsher game than she is willing to play, she makes grand statements and traps herself into believing there’s no other way, but is so much happier when she’s proven wrong and love trumps her beliefs yet again. Her fans showed her so much genuine love that she became overwhelmed and had a panic attack, completely losing her cool as she professed her love for them back. Chieri is a wilful and stubborn person who can be a little snappy, but she has an immeasurable love for the people around her and a great capacity for forgiveness. She even tries to understand and reach out to her father, and this is after he launched an attack on her home that left it in ruins, let the military brainwash all the people on their planet against aKB0048, lost them one of her closest friends when he tried to use her for power, and threatened to destroy all the others if she didn’t try to gain the same dangerous abilities. Sadly he was murdered right in front of her before Chieri could ever find out if she’d reached him or not, but after a lot of anger and tears Chieri eve forgave the people responsible and tried to understand them too. In the end, she just wants to spread love and peace and hope through music, even to her greatest enemies.

- ★ COURT ALLIANCE:
Despite being a fundamentally good character with strong morals and ideals, I’m going to place Chieri as Unseelie. Her morality might align with Seelie but her principles don’t, she won’t kill anyone and has been trained to fight to protect, but flee before harming another person. Running is out of love, not cowardice, but I doubt the Seelie court would see it that way. For as morally ambiguous as the Unseelie are, they’d be more in line with her ‘I do what I want!!’ attitude and she’d be more free to follow her heart and passions, which is a big deal to her. Plus she is kind of a wanted terrorist. This is because entertainment is illegal in her world and she’s a singer, but. Super a terrorist.

- ★ ABILITIES:
Since Chieri is from a magical sci-fi canon, many of her skills will be rendered obsolete by the lack of technology in the fae world. She does, however, have powers that rely on the heart and soul and connect the emotions of those around her.

- As an idol, Chieri has the power to glow. This radiance is the most powerful force in her universe, it summons flocks of little alien creatures from idols souls called kirara that can:
                    - power up technology and make it stronger (obsolete)
                    - connect the hearts and emotions of those around her and make them stronger (think power of friendship and stat boosts)
                    - Create super sparkly shields to protect people.

- As the Center Nova, she glows with the brightest radiance of any 00 member and is basically musical Jesus. She has very vaguely defined control of time and space, meaning she can:
                    - Teleport herself and others, sometimes taking control of entire fleets of armies and sending them back to their homes.
                    - Make stronger shields independently
                    - Make duplicates of herself (capped at 3)

- Center Nova also have access to the Center Nova gate, a strange magical theatre on a different plane of reality that grants unlimited power, where Center Nova are called to sing forevermore and protect entertainment. Basically they graduate from musical Jesus to musical gods. Chieri will not have access to the gate or it’s stat boosts, which is both good and bad since it stops the possibility of her disappearing forever if the becomes too radiant.

Outside of her sparkly musical capabilities, Chieri is skilled in:
- Hand to hand combat
- Sword fighting
- Sharp shooting
- Mecha piloting. Without her giant robots or taser swords, these won’t be much of a concern.

- ★ INVENTORY: The list of completely useless sci-fi items Chieri has on her person:
- Graphical coated dress (an item that will be broken in game since no technology, but usually her clothes are designed to change colour or pattern depending on what’s projected onto them. They are somewhat bulletproof)
- Micsaber (microphone that turns into a TASER SWORD at the push of a button)
- Kirara (magical soul alien. Like a pokemon if it was a physical manifestation of your soul, should count as a power)
- Bulletproof lotion. Seriously.
- Fancy futuristic mobile phone.
